How to Install Roman Shades in Your Home

Picking out the right Roman shades for your house is only the first half of things—next is figuring out how to install the Roman shades in your home. And just as importantly, installing them so they look professionally done!

If you’re looking for Roman shades in Mississauga to complete your home’s look, then you’ve come to the right place. Read on to find out how to install Roman shades for your home.

Tools You Need to Install Roman Shades

Like with any house job, you need the right tools to get it done right. That means you’ll need a:

  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Step ladder
  • Level

With those tools in hand, you’re now ready to install window shades in your Mississauga home.

Choose Inside Mount or Outside Mount Roman Shades

Next you have to decide between an inside or outside mount.

Inside Mount

For inside mounts, you’ll use mounting holes that are pre-drilled into the headrail. You’ll need your level here to make sure it’s even and put screws through the mounting holes and then hold the shade inside the window frame in order to line it up with the centre of the frame.

With that complete, you’ll push up on the headrail and leave small indentations from the screws in the frame, which will make your next step far easier.

Now you drill a hole where the indentations are. With the holes complete, attach the screws to the headrail and drill them into the pre-drilled holes and voila, you’re all done.

Outside Mount

The process for outside mounts isn’t all that different from inside mounts.

The first step is to place your shade against the wall where you will mount your window treatments. Use a pencil to mark the top of the headrail. The marks should be around 2.5 inches from the outside edges of your headrail. Next, you’ll need to fasten your brackets to the wall or window frame using some long screws. Again, you can use your level here to ensure that it’s appropriately positioned.

The next step will have you placing your headrail on the brackets and snapping them into place. You’ll want to ensure that the cords can move freely, so they won’t get caught on the brackets.

The last step is to use screws to secure your window treatment firmly in place.
